Circa 1900 Bold Transitional 87" x 56" CHURRO

Offered here is a circa 1900s Navaho weaving that measures 7 feet 3 inches long by 4 foot 8 inches
wide and is in excellent condition.  It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all
Native hand shorn, hand carded and nicely handspun silky old long staple Churro sheep wool, both
warp & weft.  The weaver used the strong red ground upon which to weave a big bold serrated
concentric diamond pattern.  Each big diamond has a smaller serrated diamond variation motifs at its
center.  This blanket is very nicely balanced and makes a very powerful artistic statement.

This vintage Native American textile has a smooth, even weft count averaging 22 per inch and a warp
count of 6 per inch.  The selvage cords are 100% original and in excellent condition.  Warp selvages are
2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords.  The corners are tight, original and in excellent
condition.  All four tassels are original and in excellent condition.  No wear, no holes, no odors, no
moth-bites, no fade, no stains and no snags.  It is clean and comes from a non-smoking home.  Both
sides are even in color.  It lays flat & smooth and is symmetrical.  Colors are bright and strong in this
piece American Indian art and they are:  natural hand carded and blended dark grayish brown, natural
dark brown, natural ivory white along with hand dyed aniline burnt orange and aniline turkey red.  
Complete with lazy lines, this nice example of antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own
hacienda on the floor or wall or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket collection.  ©
