| 1890s Very Large CHURRO TRANSITIONAL Navajo Rug 130” x 68” Offered here is a circa 1890s, beautiful Concho Belt Border Navaho weaving that measures 10 feet 10 inches long by 5 foot 8 inches wide and is in excellent condition. It was woven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native hand shorn, hand carded and nicely handspun silky old long staple Churro sheep wool, both warp & weft. This is a beautifully designed old piece. It features a concho belt border that surrounds an all over concentric serrated diamond field layout. One of the largest transitional floor rugs we’ve come across. Lots of rug for the money. This antique Native American textile has a smooth, even weft count averaging 26-28 per inch and a warp count of 5 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% complete, original and in excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are tight and in excellent, original condition. All 4 tassels are original and in excellent condition. No wear, no holes, no odors, no moth-bites, and no snags. It is clean and comes from a non-smoking home. There are a few small areas or spots of light red and light brown bleed. It lays flat & smooth and both sides are shown in photos below. Colors are bright & strong in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: natural hand carded and blended medium grayish brown, natural ivory white along with hand dyed aniline chocolate brown and aniline turkey red. Complete with lazy lines, this nice example of vintage Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda on the wall or the floor or just tuck away in your own private rug & blanket collection. © #LC -CCLO-19 $4,800.00 |
