Circa 1880s LATE CLASSIC NAVAJO CHIEF BLANKET 69” x 51”
An exquisite old Late Classic 2nd Phase variant Chief wearing blanket that was
woven from old raveled Bayeta bolt cloth, Spanish Churro handspun and early
Germantown yarns.  The reds are all raveled, with a little being cochineal dyed
(tested).  The design of the central panel is a complex combination of over-laid
box and cross elements encased by the bold brown and white Chief stripes.

Condition Report:  There is some very old light spotting or staining in one corner
of the weaving that shows mostly in the white.  No holes or worn thin spots, no
moth damage.  Selvage cords are all in good condition.  Just a very nice, soft old
wearing blanket.
